Kaş is perhaps the district with the most ancient cities/ruins in Türkiye. Within the borders of Kaş, there are 9 different ancient cities, most of which are from the Lycian Civilization, and the Xanthos Ancient City is currently on the UN World Cultural Heritage list.
Kaş District Center was also built on the ancient city of Antiphellos, one of the Lycian cities, and a large part of the city is an Urban Protected Area. Antiphellos Ancient Theater, Hellenistic Temple, Necropolis, Lycian King Tomb are within walking distance in the city center.
Other ancient cities within the borders of Kaş District are: Phellos (Çukurbağ), Patara (Gelemiş), Isında (Belenli), Candyba (Çataloluk), Apollonia (Sahil Kılıçlı) Pirha (Bezirgan) and Nysa (Nisa-Neisa-Sütleğen).
Independent of these, Lycian water cisterns, workshops, necropolis areas, Lycian rock tombs and ancient farms that are still in use are scattered throughout the geography, including along the Lycian roads.
The Lycian-Hellenic-Roman ruins displayed in glass cases in museums in England and Europe form the familiar images of the rugged Kaş geography. If you walk on the Lycian roads, you will not believe the reality of what you see, but believe me, it is all real and these are only the remains of the effects of time, man and nature…
